On Saturday 14th June, SPRA was delighted to host a performance of Shakespeare in the Square's Taming of the Shrew in St Peter's Square. The play is renowned as comic and provocative battle of wits, wills and wild romance. This version, directed by Toby Gordon, was given a colourful all-American twist, complete with pop classics from the 1950s and 60s, brilliantly performed by the multi-talented cast. The audience particularly seemed to love opportunities for participation - including one small boy who donned godfather-style dark glasses to play the silent part of an Italian patriarch!
The show has already received 5 Star reviews from many industry critics. This is the 6th time that SPRA has teamed up with the producers, following on from last year's sell-out show All's Well That Ends Well.
As ever, ticket holders were welcome to picnic before the show, and many came early to enjoy the sunny evening. Thanks to Mick Pearson at the Cross Keys who provided a much-appreciated pop-up bar for the event. Finally, the show would not go on without the invaluable support of Steve and Georgina Askins, who provided Green Room facilities for the whole cast.
